I agree with you about the differences between trans mapped / strand hair, 100 %!
Strand hair still looks like made of metal wire, as I already wrote.

I have some of Mankahoo's hairs (though only a few), but I can confirm that it's of excellent quality and also perfectly suited for morphing individual hair styles.

B.t.w., is only me or does his "HR-114" look like a clone of "GraceLionHair"? Maybe even he's "Quarker"?

That's a problem with all conforming hair if the head or neck bends: Sometimes it just looks odd, if not even totally off.

For some of my characters which have longer hair I developed a rig which is non-conforming.

You just parent it to the "head" actor.
The movement of the "back hair" is in the rigging, similar to what you can do with SASHA's limbs:
Grab an area, pull it the way you want, twist it if needed.

E.G., if your girl tilts his head backwards, the hair will not stay "glued" to the back, with that sharp crease in the neck area.
Instead, you can grab it and make it hang down naturally.

I don't have some example renders at hand right now (at least none that are SFW ), but if you're interested in the technique I could advise you how to rig the hair.

Be warned:
"There ain't no easy runs"!
But once you've got the knack, it will be superiour to any conforming hair you've used before.
The only drawback is that you will have to pose it manually according to the head/neck bending.

But before we start, you should make sure that you have at least basic knowledge about:

• How to use the Grouping Tool (to define your groups for the hair movement)
• How to rig a figure in the Setup Room
• How to use the Joint Editor (because it's here where your new hair is made to work properly)
• Optionally: How to use the Fitting Room because it will make it much easier to incorporate changes after the initial setup and rigging.
• Optionally: How to use the Morphing Tool.
  IMO it's the one most powerful tool in Poser right now, and if you know how to use it correctly it can spare you A LOT of exporting/importing into other programs, and all the headaches that are caused by it.

Also, the integrated Skull cap doesn't fit V4/SASHA, especially on the sides and back.
How about a file that repositions the hair prop to fit V4/SASHA, and a morph to make the skull cap to fit V4?

But now you at least have a "head" start (literally!) because the spawned skull cap should fit by default.)


The "FIT V4" morph isn't a true morph though.

In order to keep it lightweight I used some translation dials to make it fit instead of creating a full-blown morph moving all vertices into place (which would weigh in at another 47.000 vertices and is totally unnecessary if the translation dials fulfil the same purpose!)

For the same reason you should also DELETE the "Fit_V3" morph that comes with the hair: It will alleviate the prop by another 47.000 otherwise unneeded polygons!


Some words of warning though:

My morphs aren't anything near symmetrical because of some odd behaving polygons in the original obj file, so I had to make do to compensate, which basically means that each side of the morph is a custom sculpt.

Also they don't play well with some of the "wilder" styles that are part of preset styles. But one can't have it all, anytime...

Remember this if you want to create your own custom styles for this hair:
The "mirror +x/-x" might produce unexpected results and need lateral fixes!


I can't upload the morph injections right now because this is a personal thing I did about a year ago, so I need to spawn some new morph targets and master parameters to make it easier to use for the general public.
That may take some days plus even more days because I'm notorious to be behind schedule all the time.

Just keep watching this thread!

Here's the injection file for the morphs; for ease of use I'd suggest you put into the same "hair" library folder where the hair prop is located.
