I think I can "improve" the model by taking it apart, modify, subdivide, and then make something new like I did with other models (all parts working!)

It's a very efficient method to create what I call "Prop Figures":
Like in a figure, I build separate "Prop Parts" and parent them to each other.
Then LOCK all parameters which must not be changed (translate, rotate, scale) so that the indidual part can't be messed with accidentally.

Well, civilian "high-tech" vehicles from here are still rather scarce (if you don't count some mad "SUV" models for the super-rich, or the LADAs of recent production date [Avtovaz], in collaboration with Renault).

So the old internet meme still fits:

Funny you mention the Studebaker though:
That lorry still is associated with "Typical Russian Lorry" because it often was the base of the "Katyusha" rocket launcher.
But you're right, the Soviet engineers copied the design and then made their own versions. Just look at the "Boeing B-50" which became the "Tupolev TU-4"...


I remember you visited Berlin for several years already.
Unfortunately your reports with pictures were stifled on some boards (...) because your posts were considered as "irrelevant" by some.

I followed your thread at Rendo, and also saw the accusations about being a "political" thread. But that was just one single user IIRC, and the accusation was pathetic anyway.

A very long time ago I was was a member of a group where the motto was:
"Don't let the bastards grind you down!"

This it Berlin centre, and just top left can be seen a part of the "Nikolai Quartier" which was completely destroyed except for the church, and resurrected later with "Platenbau" and mock up facades to look "historic". Not badly made I must admit!


The funny thing is:
If you could stand on top of the "Statue Of Indepedence" on Majdan, in Kiev, looking north too, you'ld have a very similar panorama!
Less trees, and the houses around the square all will be "Stalin" area bombastic architecture like in "Stalin Alley" in Berlin. Plus a fancy shopping mall added around the turn of the Millenium when they completely rebuilt the square.
And "Kreschatik Boulevard" runs right across Majdan like the four-lane street in your picture.
And there's even a fountain too (hidden behind the monument)!


But here in Kiev, this vast empty space wasn't "cleared" by the American (or the British) bomber squadrons.
It was "created" during the two battles for Kiev which left huge areas of the city centre in ruins (plus a large part of houses along Kreschatik being blown to smithereens by partisans when the Germans held their "victory parade" in 1941 - with predictable heavy losses for the pathetically parading Germans

After the war the buildings along Kreschatik and Majdan were constructed in "Stalin Style", and many German POWs were employed in the reconstruction:

(at least watch the second video: Kiev in 1983! Starting at time index 03:00 there's round trip of Majdan as it was back then, less the monument of course)

However I have to admit that the Germans did one better after the war:
They built a useful radio tower; we built a nice but admittedly useless monument...

Don't bother about the FAL any longer - just go to the black market in Antwerps - get good 'ol AK-74 or the newer -100 series. Just in case someone complains...

You're right - poses are always only "starters" simply because it suffices to change a few parameters like torso or arms length and everything needs re-adjustment.
What I meant is the part which I described in the manual chapter 6.3. pp, regarding the "collar control" which can give you a headache if you don't know how to deal with it correctly.

LOL! about the suntan bottle placed so innocently in the centre of attraction! ;)

The wide gap between the thighs is a general problem with the V4 figure. You can partially fix it in the BODY shapes:
There are several dials in the "Leg-Foot" parameter group which can deal with it.
Also, reducing the hip xScale helps, but don't forget to copy the scaling in any clothing too!

Unfortunately I couldn't use any of these fixes as standard because of people then having even more massive issues with pokethroughs.

Yes you're probably right about the size and amount of your Berlin photos; I didn't think about that.
However, if you plan to upload them somewhere else, please let me know.

One remark about your latest renders, if I may?
On my monitors (colour-calibrated) they all look quite dark and have a distinctive greenish tint.
Is that intentional?


I use BagginsBill's "Environment Sphere" for nearly all of myrenders (especially outdoors).

Attached you'll find my "Preferred Scene" setup which I use all the time.

It has BB's Environment Sphere as a "customGeom" in it (it's just a simple but huge sphere with normals turned to the inside).
If you want the environment sphere to be invisible in your renders (to set the alpha channel transparent) set "visible in camera" in the sphere's properties to zero, but leave everything else as it is!

The materials are all procedural, and the scene has a single infinite light as "Sun". You can control the sun's brightness, azimuth and elevation in the "UNIVERSE" actor!

There are four more lights called "Preview Lights":
These are *not* visible in the render. Their only purpose is to add light in the preview window so that you don't have a pitch black scene when no lights are present.

Parented to the main camera there's an extra spotlight called "Camera Flash".
It serves this exact purpose, and I use it a lot and just like a real photographer would use a camera flash.


Just give it a try and tell me what you think about *my* setup.

Just noticed it also has the "Earth Gravity" prop in it; but also as an embedded geometry so there shouldn't be a problem.

This is a Superfly render, right? What bugs me is that there is almost no shadow at all. Maybe Superfly handles the lights differently?

Look at the four "POSING FLT...etc" lights: their diffuse colour is set to black so that they won't be rendered (in Firefly).
Delete all four of them and render again.
The result should look almost exactly like in your third render, and that's how it is supposed to be.

Oh, it just occurred to me:
Do you use the "Construct" (or whatever it's called)? You must delete (or make invisible ) this one too because it blocks raytracing from the much larger "Environment Sphere".

The reason for "my" preferred scene is that I can easily control the "sun's (==infinite light) azimuth, elevation and brightness with the three dials in the "UNIVERSE" without having to select the light first.

And don't forget to give the "camera flash" a try!

So good to see activity from you again!
Unfortunately the "alerts" on threads posted at Rendo don't work for me, so I just found out by your post here today. Sorry...

I think I already said how much I enjoy your style of presenting your work, and your latest set of presenting SASHA's beach poses is great as always.
I chuckled a lot when viewing your posts at Rendo (as I always do).

However, there's a serious flaw in your pose files!

It's a common mistake that can be found even in "commercial" poses sold for $$$!
But it's an absolute No-No in any pose file:
You probably saved your poses with the normal Poser Library function "Save Pose" and included both limb rotations and body morphs.

The result will not be noticed as long as you use standard V4 / SASHA.

But once you have a character morph dialed in, it leads to disaster because all your customized shape dials will be reset, and you have standard V4 shape again!

Just try this:
Load SASHA, and then apply the "SASHA Teen" morph injection.
Then apply any of your poses. See what happens?
(b.t.w., that's not a problem with SASHA: it will happen on any customized V4)

If you wish I can rewrite your pose files to work properly.
After all the joy I had from reading your posts I think I owe you a few, so that wouldn't be a problem.

However, I'ld ask you to please remove your current upload from ShareCG before more people download the faulty version.
I think that this can spare us a lot of "error reports" by people who download the wrong version.
